I want to be completely honest here, this process almost broke me mentally. Even though I am a qualified lawyer and knew I had a solid, rock-complete file with 59 documents (including 9 property deeds, official bar association registrations, etc.), the silence from the Department of Home Affairs triggered severe anxiety.
Seeing people who applied after me getting grants in 10-15 days made me question everything. I fell into a deep spiral of overthinking, thinking that my file was too complicated or that something was wrong. On top of that, dealing with family pressure and hearing well-meaning but discouraging comments like "It’s taking too long, it might be a refusal", completely shattered my morale, especially during a physically exhausting month.
